Sculpture + Site Furnishings

Ridgway, Colorado, is a rural town situated in a mountain valley along the Uncompahgre River in the northern foothills of the San Juan Mountains.  The town partnered with the Colorado Department of Transportation on a construction project to improve the State Highway 62 corridor that runs through it and to revitalize the downtown Historic Business District.  A national competition was held to select artists to design and fabricate unique street furnishing elements that enhance the town’s creative identity and its commitment to being ecologically responsible.  A collection of six of Colin Selig’s benches were chosen to be installed along the highway, with the intention that their bright colors and unusual shapes grab people’s attention and have them want to stop in town.
